MBR Color Corrector
MBR Color Corrector is a video filter that can automatically correct the colors in a clip. This allows for easy editing as the footage before and after each cut will have matching colors.
The filter works by examining all 24 color patches on a Gretag MacBeth / X-Rite ColorChecker and calculating how best to fix the footage. Example footage from a Canon 7D camera, before and after automatic color correction:
As the automatic correction looks at all the color patches, it can easily correct saturation and white balance problems simultaneously:
The easiest way to understand how the filter works is to download the trial version.
How to use
The first step is to make sure that for every set of lighting conditions you have at least one clip that contains a color card. (The easiest way to do this is to simply film the color card in every clip).
When you import the clips into Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe After Effects, apply the MBR Color Corrector to the clip.
For each clip, find a frame where the color card is well exposed
and press the Find Card
button. Now your clip has been automatically color
corrected.
More detailed instructions are available for using the filter within Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Color Grading
This filter doesn't attempt to perform color grading, the recommended work flow is to apply color grading effects after the MBR Color Corrector effect.
The advantage of using the MBR Color Corrector before color grading is that the color grading starts from a known starting point.
